Vo svojej práci sa Denisa Štefanigová venuje najmä otázkam intimity, vzťahov, sexuality a sociálnej normatívnosti. Jej energická, expandujúca a expresívna maľba Strč prst skrz vypovedá o zmenách sexuálnej a vzťahovej normatívnosti v súčasnosti, o jej možnostiach, východiskách a význame pre oslobodenie spoločnosti od predsudkov. Chápe sexualitu a túžbu ako akúsi hnaciu silu, ktorá síce dodáva životu energiu, ale zároveň môže prinášať so sebou pocit neistoty, bolesti a nerozhodnosti, keďže sa ocitá v nemilosti spoločenských stereotypov. Často vo svojich obrazoch pracuje s mytológiou, ktorá je prejavom sublimovanej túžby, a jej systematickým spoznávaním a skúmaním možno otvárať otázky ľudskej i neľudskej prirodzenosti. Jedinec je v jej tvorbe vždy súčasťou širokej siete vzťahov, v ktorej operuje často princípom sebazapierania a až oslobodenie a uvoľnenie vnútornej pudovej sily mu pomáha prinavrátiť potrebné odhodlanie a vitalitu.
In her work, Denisa Štefanigová deals mainly with issues of intimacy, relationships, sexuality, and social normativity. Her energetic, expansive, and expressive painting “Strč prst skrz”1 speaks about the changes in sexual and relational normativity in our time, its possibilities, starting points and its importance for the liberation of society from prejudices. It understands sexuality and desire as a kind of driving force that can bring with it a sense of insecurity, pain and indecision as it finds itself at the mercy of social stereotypes. She often works with mythology in her paintings, which is a manifestation of sublimated desire, and by systematically exploring and examining it, questions of both human and non-human nature can be raised. In her work, the individual is always part of a wide network of relationships, in which she often operates on the principle of self-denial, and only the liberation and release of the inner instinctive force helps her to regain the necessary determination and vitality.
